Married Life Today

Every parent knows the horror of children, regardless of how much they love them. My angels who are five year old twins decided to give me a surprise early this morning. Upon waking up at the normal 7 o’clock, I noticed that the usual quiet from their room was replaced with laughter. While certainly not disappointed, my Daddy radar was certainly set on high alert. I approached the door and turned the knob.

As I opened the door to hell, I see my two daughters sitting on the bed with hair covering virtually every square inch of the bedroom. They had decided that they would take their kid scissors and give themselves a little trim. Before everyone screams about them having scissors, these scissors were the protective scissors for elementary school, and they were put up in the top of their closet. How the little stinkers got up to the top of that closet is beyond me. I assume they climbed up the clothes.

Before the haircut, they had long hair down to the middle of their backs. It also was the pride and joy of their unaware Mother that was at work. Here sat my two daughters looking as though they had fought a lawn mower and lost. My daughter Brooke, in particular, looked like she had a Chia plant growing out of her head. What was I going to do?

No haircut came to mind except the old 1970’s Dorothy Hamill bob, so I went to cutting. After a few panic attacks, and a flurry of trimming, the girls actually came out looking like they had been to a stylist. A stylist on dope, mind you, but a stylist just the same. Not bad for a 39 year old former jock turned barber.

Mommy came home and had her coronary. Once she was revived, she fixed the hair problem with a few clips here and there. Thank God I was never a barber.

Such is a day in the life of Mommy and Daddy.
